The Asia Cup 2022 will begin on August 27. However, all eyes will be on the opening clash of the Indian team as they take on arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28. This will be the first time that the two teams will be clashing since the Men in Green defeated India in the T20 World Cup 2021. Hence, India will be looking to exact revenge on their arch-rivals in the continental tournament.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has shared his prediction from the mega clash between India and Pakistan. He has said that he picks India as the favourites to emerge as the winners of the game.
“I’ll stick with India to win that clash against Pakistan. That’s taking nothing away from Pakistan because they are an incredible cricket nation that continue to present out-and-out superstar players,” he said in the latest edition of ICC Review.
Due to several political reasons, India and Pakistan now face each other in a very limited number of games. There has not been a bilateral series between the two since 2013, and they now only face each other in ICC events and the Asia Cup.

Ricky Ponting has said that as a cricket fan he would like to see more India-Pakistan clashes. “To be totally honest, it’s one that we’ve been starved of, haven’t we… looking back the last 15 or 20 years. As a cricket lover like I am and a cricket observer, any time those sorts of battles come up it’s almost always nice to sit back and watch because everything just goes up a notch, doesn’t it?” he said.

In fact, Ricky Ponting has predicted India to emerge as the winners of Asia Cup. “It’s always hard to go past India in any tournament, not just an Asia Cup. I think every time we talk about the T20 World Cup which is coming up, I think that India will be right in the thick of it there. Their depth is definitely better than the other teams and I think India will win the Asia Cup,” the Australian legend added.
