Rockstar has banned fans from talking about GTA 6 on Twitch chat

GTA 6 may be all some people want to talk about but Rockstar Games has censored anyone trying to mention the game on Twitch and YouTube.

Any other company would be over the moon with how much people are talking about Grand Theft Auto 6, but not Rockstar Games. They banned the phrase ‘GTA 6’ from their YouTube channel last year and now they’ve done the same for their Twitch chat.

There was no official announcement or anything, but fans have discovered that every time they try to type the name it gets redacted, which has led to some of them trying to create workarounds and pseudonyms for the game.

Since Rockstar is offering no explanation for the ban it’s hard to be certain why they don’t want people talking about it, but the most obvious explanation is that it’s still so far off they don’t want to take people’s attention away from GTA Online.

There have been few reliable leaks on GTA 6 so far, but most agree that the game won’t be out until 2024 at the earliest and probably not until 2025.

In that context it’s easy to see why Rockstar wouldn’t people talking about a game that won’t be out for three years, when they’re busy trying to keep people interested in the one that’s already out.

GTA 5 is nine years old next month and yet it’s rarely out of the UK top 10 (it’s number seven this week) and GTA Online still receives regular updates, with Rockstar still making huge amounts of money from its microtransactions.

Because Rockstar isn’t the most talkative of companies it’s difficult to tell whether GTA has been suffering development problems or whether the long wait is simply because of how big the game is.

One recent rumour though, suggested that the game’s initial scope has been decreased and that instead of having three cities and four protagonists it now only has one city (supposedly Miami) and two playable characters.

A previous report also suggested that Rockstar has worked to reduce the company’s reliance on ‘crunch’, leading to better working conditions for developers, which may have increased the time needed to make the game.
